Replacing furniture Lee Enfield #4 - where to buy?

Post by chilliman » 16 May 2014, 8:16 am

hi guys

bought an old #4 yesterday (think it's a Maltby), all metal work looks ok and works but the furniture is a bit rough and a previous owner has tried to improve it (and failed).

I'm trying to decide between pulling it down, hitting it with some steel wool and a good soak in boiled linseed or just replacing all the woodwork with a new set -either way it's coming off which will be a challenge for someone of my limited skill level but hopefully will be rewarding. will give me a chance to give it a good clean out while I'm at it.

ebay have sets for about $200 but I was wondering if anyone has bought local and maybe cheaper.

Did you want original wood or plastic?

Big tip with Lee enfields(if you don't already know)- TAKE THE FORESTOCK OFF BEFORE YOU TAKE OFF THE BUTT

I think I have a manual kicking around, if I can find it I will get Aster to post.

Edit- I had butt and forestock around the wrong way- I knew what I meant just no one else.

I have found the one for an SMLE, numbers 1,2 and 3 but not for the #4. I have a printed out copy and may have to scan it to forward on but that will be a pain in the arse. I know I have it about somewhere. I will send you the SMLE one for interest.

I will have a look on my old laptop later.
