Installing monopod in rifle grip

Post by loopal » 12 Jun 2014, 10:07 am

Does anyone know if it's possible to install a rear monopod in and existing rifle grip?

Does anyone make / sell the pod only that can be drilled into another brand stock?

Or is buying a replacement with one already built in the only way?

Thanks.

Have you used one before ?

If not you might consider a accu-shot monopod. It fits to a sling swivel meaning you don't need to drill you're stock.

I used to have one fitted to a rifle. Trust me a soft bag is less fiddly

Hey Chronos,

Yeah I know the clip on ones like that. Not what I wanted though.

Do you get the SSAA mag? There is someone that makes stocks with an internal one for Weatherby actions. I think Howa actions too? Do you know the one?

I was hoping for something like that where it slides away. Not interested at all in having to clip it on and off all the time.

I'll take a look through the mags tonight.

The accu-shot ones stay on, they just fold up but might still be in the way.

You can put anything in anything with the right glue :)

What stock are we talking?

For either a Ruger or Tikka.

A mate and I are both looking at it if possible.

I know they're not fancy bench rifles but I reckon it would be useful still.

^^ In that case I'd go a different route as neither has a fibreglass stock to the best of my knowledge (?). It can be really hard to get stuff to stick to moulded placcy stocks. If you are talking wood, then stuff ups can't be as easily hidden.

Thus I'd file a flat onto the underside of the butt and install a short monopod rail

Like: http://www.accu-shot.com/Precision_Rail_Monopod.php

onto a rail like: (damn, can't find it now, I saw a short rail about 3" long really cheap, like $10, just recently....)

Install rail with small screws and a metal filled epoxy like JB Weld or Devcon 10110 and it ain't coming off.....

The Ruger laminate stock would do it if he has it. Or a timber one.

Tikka only comes in timber and plastic right? Only if he has a timber one for that then.

Hi guys,

Timber Ruger, but synthetic Tikka only so no luck with that one.

I'll pass the rail idea along mark, but I'm not keen to saw into my stock.

We'll see what he thinks, might get him to bite the bullet and try it out first
