What are you blokes preferences for the stock butt and why?

Personally I dislike hogs back as I think it looks horrible.

On many of them the drop at heel can be excessive which would make for a lot more recoil (rotating up into your cheek hard)

So if you like the shape, drop at heel is considered and designed out (or it is a light recoiling rifle) then fine

Personally, straight comb. If a cheekpiece is added I don't see the point of rollover, though it can be attractive if done well.

Here's my baby almost done now...... (my first walnut stock I've done)

I use both, both work for me, so long as I can see through the scope I'm happy. ;)

Honestly I love the look of a hogsback stock, lol sorry mark Tac. But sometimes if your using a scope, well in my case I sometimes have to lift my head up a fraction of the stock, which isnt great for accuracy or much else really.

It is.

Here's something Aster did up for another thread comparing straight vs hogback.

The image should swap between the two stocks...

My Tikka Fluted Hunter action is in a Forest stock (roll over cheek piece). I much prefer it over the straight combs and had my dealer swap them around so I could have the combo I wanted :D

I found with the straight stocks when I shoulder them I feel like I'm resting my cheekbone on an inch wide bar. I also feel like I have to move my head up a fraction more than is ideally comfortable to line up with the scope.

With the roll-over from the Forest stock it feels to me like the pressure is distributed over move of my cheek and there isn't the line of pressure on my cheek bone.

As for the hog-back stocks, I looove the Sako Bavarian Carbine that's pictures above. When looking down the iron sights of that the hog-back makes it a perfect fit for me.

I've never shouldered one with a scope so can't say there, but if I was going to get a setup with open sights and hand the money, that would be the right for sure.

All just personal fit there, but that's me.

Obviously the correct answer is bums.

Ha.

You're right though, personal preference.

Love my Forest stock, two other mates shoot Tikka's and they both dislike it, so... To each their own.

I've never seen a rifle with legs, boobs or bums but I imagine that it would be distracting.

I like Aster's bit of technology, he's a clever fella.
