Hi all,
Just thought I would post this here in case anyone else had this drama.
My brother and I own a Savage .308 BAT/S rifle which is really fun to shoot. What wasn't so fun is that we started having issues when chambering rounds. We found that the trigger would sometimes lock up when the bolt was fully closed, requiring the user to cycle the action. We further diagnosed it that the harder you closed the bolt, the more likely it was to lock up. I was concerned that this may have been the reason the previous owner sold it.
We tried different ammo but that didn't affect it.
We took the rifle to our local gunsmith Ralf Dauner who repaired it for us very quickly and easily (thanks to Baldrick314 for the hot tip on the gunsmith). Basically it was a crappy trigger job done on it by the previous owner that was causing the issue where they had rounded and polished the edges of everything and that something inside the trigger mech was not holding properly when the bolt was closed firmly.
Fortunately he was able to repair the damage quickly and cheaply and we're back in business. Looking forward to meeting some of you guys at the Seaham range soon.
Peace!
