Export license for McMillan stocks now required

Post by Korkt » 01 Sep 2014, 3:17 pm

This was in an email from McMillan a few days ago. This has gotta hurt them, like the stocks weren't expensive enough already.

Another $250 for a stupid permit is going to put people off for sure.

Important Notice: August, 2014
Due to recent determinations at the US Department of State, McMillan Fiberglass Stocks now require an export license to ship fiberglass stocks internationally.

An export license may cost up to $250.00 US Funds. McMillan understands that there may be varying country requirements and wishes to make the export process as painless as possible, but you can use your own exporter.

To export out of the US you will need to purchase an export license and certain countries also require an import license, which we will need a copy of it. If an import license is not required, then a document must be signed stating so. The export license is usually valid for 1 year and it can be for one stock or for multiple stocks (open license) being shipped to the same address.

McMillan has an onsite export manager with experience in exporting internationally. Additionally, we have agreements with several international partners in various countries that can facilitate the export process.

Please contact Mary Jo McMillan if you have any additional questions at mjmcmillan@mcmillanusa.com

It's probably worth emailing the American ambassador asking WTF do we have a free trade agreement or not, why is the government restricting the business of USA gun shops with foreign sales when customers in Australia have valid B709 to import products, the B709 should satisfy any doubt about legality of import.

A sensible rule would allow the sale and export of anything from the USA if customer could get a B709 for it,a gun shop should not be required for registration purposes of new rifles customs should be able to notify police that person picked up import and serial numbers matched when B709 is presented with imported product.

I have bought many things online from the USA the service has been great, perhaps they need to be told how their export regs need a overhaul with firearms

The US ambassador's administrator's receptionist's neighbour's 3rd cousin's acquaintance wouldn't care enough to be concerned about aussie shooters....

These export control have been in place for a while but seem to be controlling lawful shooters......don't forget the UN is driving this global push with the aid of significant lobby groups who want all, that's ALL GUNS GONE from us. It's really head shaking material, read this UNODA page:
http://www.un.org/disarmament/update/20120829a/

Then consider WE are as we speak delivering Hercules loads of AK47s and ammo to ?????

I just can't believe it applies for stocks at all.

It's a piece of wood or fiberglass.

If someone wants to club someone they'll go buy a $15 hammer or bat. Not a $700 rifle stock.

From a purely commercial standpoint I'm surprised the defence industry has allowed ITAR in its current for to hang around for so long. I have to wonder how much money they lose from customers in Austrlia, New Zealand, Uk EU etc. I know for a fact that the ADF chose a European designed helicopter over a US made one because of ITAR and it has also caused problem between Canada, us and the UK in the F35 project - they eventually had to write massive exemption into ITAR to get foreign governments in on the project.

Regardless, ITAR shouldn't even f***ing apply to countries that are supposed to their allies, such as us. I can understand not wanting guns to be exported to dumps like Somalia but it really has gone to far.

absolutely, as 'allies' we send our soldiers to die in the sand along side the 'mericans...you'd think they'd allow sales of freakin stock, brass and other paraphernalia to aussie shooters and the diggers/ ex-diggers... in reality though the US industry apparently cant keep up with their own market so theyre not too concerned about us.....
Ultimately all these treaties mean jack sh$t to the government, for goodnes sake they want to control arms export import how many rounds of 223 john smith buy, is he potentially a terrorist.... then they (read we) literally drop plane loads of AKs, mags and ammo over iraq... WTF is happening here?????

There is a Browning ammo manufacturing place here in Melbourne.

Cheaper than shipping crates of ammo I guess when making the ammo is automated.

Paying staff to build rifles though probably can't be done here as cheaply as in the US, otherwise they'd be doing it already you'd guess.
