Thanks lads.

there's nothing wrong with the plastic one functionally and i didn't mind it for looks at first, but i agree with you bigfella... after a while i just wanted to get something a lot nicer looking. i actually wanted to get a hardwood hunter style with stippling, trimmings etc, but given it was over the $100 export limit, boyd's just wouldn't except the order

I used the USD to check the float. only reason i got it as i just got back yesterday from a trip to sri lanka and bloody Colombo airport would only change my rupee's to yank $.... i felt so dirty.. lol

at USD$99 plus postage, these stocks rock!!

here's their website pic of it... a bit clearer...

I'm considering going down this route (after struggling to finds a T3 laminated stainless) - any chance of a follow up report once you've taken her out?

sure, she's off hunting for 3 days tomoz so i'll let you know how it goes.
i did a lot of searching of reviews online etc and didn't find one single bad report.
only complaint i have so far is that usa govt restricts export sale to USD100, which is a shame, as i really wanted to get some trimmings like stippling, capping, etc which would have cost another 60 bucks or so

I dunno mate, never bought a complete rifle, I only buy barreled actions as I can't stand plastic on any rifle (reminds me too much of the ol M16's) so wasn't interested in going there again.

I'm not a huge fan of the sound that travels through a synthetic stock, timber and laminate seems to dampen the vibration better

Yep they just don't do it at all for me, I know they are practical etc but just not for me at all, I'd rather timber of some description anyday. Having said that I think some of the higher end aftermarket synthetic stocks are well made and I could probably come at owning one of those but these factory stocks that come on most of the cheaper offerings are bloody ordinary IMO.

Each to their own of course - we each buy what we like and its good that there are options to suit everyones needs.

I see the bank note there, how did it float out of the box?

Perfect or some stock removal required?

Was a pre-fit one right? Didn't inlet it yourself?

no fitting required for float and i didnt bed it either. it fits superbly straight out of the box - that's the way they build them. u tell em what rifle you have, make model etc and they know what measurements are required. i noticed online that some people do bed, but i haven't for now (want to see how she performs on paper before i bother. it shot perfectly on the hunt, but didnt get a chance to put up a proper target. having said that, i used an old android tablet for target practice and she did seem to group rather nicely. i'll take it to a range in a week or so to see how she groups on paper at 100 and 200m. one thing i did notice in terms of difference from the plastic stock was recoil - recoil has gone down.

So many forum jockies saying you "must" bed a rifle for accuracy but it's not needed a lot of the time.

I've read the opposite elsewhere, where people didn't even try the stock before bedding it. For the 30 seconds it takes to assemble and disassemble why wouldn't you :unknown:

Could have saved the hassle of bedding it.

I've only got a sporter stock from boyds recently and although the action dropped in I needed to sand out a few millimetres to get the barrel to free float properly as it was touching on the left side. Also had to sand out a few mm to get the bolt handle to close without any resistance. Not a major concern for a cheap stock but I know a bloke got a thumbhole stock at the same time for his tikka and had the same problem. Possibly a bad batch because it's the only two cases I've heard of aside from people sanding to fit varmint barrels in.

I've heard of a few that had to do the bolt handle and channel, I always open my channels up regardless, haven't had to do any of the handle area on any of them though (5 stocks now) all been a straight drop in fit which is always pleasing to see.

G'day,

I can't find any stock from Boyds now under USD$129 on their site, so they wont send them to AUS. Anyone know how we can import under these new $100 rules or are we screwed now? Anyone sell these in AUS at a price that isn't ridiculous?

Gus

Yeah. The $99 limit is pretty silly. I'd like a pepper Prairie for my tikka. How much is postage? The US$ is 1.3 AU$ so about AU$130 atm.
