Tikka stocks

Post by Magoo 223 » 17 Oct 2013, 5:56 pm

Boyd's Gunstocks in the US have just released a range of stocks for Tikka T3 rifles. I have a Thumbhole stock on my Marlin X7VH 308 and ordered today a Featherweight Thumbhole for my T3 Lite Stainless 223.

Ditto for this.

Would appreciate some pictures if you could post back once it's received.

That stand of yours looks like it's seen some use.

Placed the order yesterday, received notice from US postal service this morning that they had received it. Should be about 10 days and on the 11 it should be ready for testing. If its have as good as the Marlin stock I will be very happy. Yes the stand has seen a bit of use with load testing and sighting in when arriving at Cunnamulla.

Pretty sure they don't.

If you want pillar bedding you've got to do it yourself.

They're pretty slack with updating their website.

I looked earlier and these stocks still aren't up there :(

New Tikka T3 Thumbhole stock has arrived. It came with the recoil lug bedded in the stock. I am going to fit it and hopefully test it this weekend. I contacted Boyd's during the week as I saw the Tikka stocks where with drawn from the web site. I wanted to order a stock for my T3 243 Varmint. They said this was due to demand and would be relisted shortly. Will send photo when assembled. VERY HAPPY

New stock fitted in minutes. Undid the 2 torx screws removed trigger guard and separated old stock. Dropped into new stock, fitted trigger guard centred barrel in the stock and tightened. Barrel is in centre of stock and fully floated. I can take it out and shoot. Being a bit fussy I am going drop it back out and lightly sand the inside where the trigger guard fits for the mag. In the plastic stock it has always been a firm fit for the magazine now I will open it up slightly to make it quicker to swap mags especially at night.

Kudos to them just for getting that right.

Amazing how many stocks on new rifles are "floated" but are actually touching the barrel somewhere along the length.

Reckon it's worth bedding your new stock Magoo?

Or is it snug enough you wouldn't bother with the standard fit?

I'm very happy with the fit. I'll shoot it for a while and see. I did not have to bed the stock on the heavy barrel Marlin 308. It made the rifle a delight to shoot.

If only half the rifle makers could do this out of the box with their factory stocks...

Hey, just curious what the weight difference is of your t3 with the plastic stock vs the Boyd's feather lite thumbhole.

Thanks.

Inlet the Boyds stocks are about 1.1kg.

Not sure about the factory Tikka Synthetic stock. Anyone bothered to weigh theirs?

Any updates about your tikka performance wise?

I'm considering changing out my synthetic stock for a Boyds if it helps improve accuracy.
