Prefit or grind recoil pads?

Post by Octane » 12 Jul 2013, 3:38 pm

Hi guys,

I'm looking into recoil pads for my first rifle. Do the prefit ones go ok?

There seems to be enough reputable brands like Kick Eez, Pachmayr, Limbsaver etc. It's just whether I go with a prefit or a grind to fit.

I couldn't grind to fit one myself so would have to have a gunsmith do it, but I'm sure I could fit a pre-fit one. How do they compare though?

Cheers.

Any of those brands are good.

Grind to fit is obviously ideal because it will be perfect, but as you said you'll need to pay a gunsmith to do it and be without your rifle for a few weeks.

The prefit ones are good in overall size, but the drill holes don't always match up. You might have to drill a new hole or two for the prefit, and it might hang over half a mm or so from the stock.

Still fine IMO though.

Prefit are good. Installed one on my Hawkeye in about 10 minutes. Had to drill 1 new hole but it fit well.

They are good mate. You don't think of a pad doing much to stop recoil, but it really does feel a lot better. Like 30% less or something? And makes feel like a fast push rather than a sharp jolt.
Ruger Gunsite Scout in three oh eight. Oh yeah!
