You can buy ready made clamp-on brakes which sometimes can have problem.
Only needs to be a few thou off and either the bullets knocks the brake off the gun or the brake isn't as effective as possible.
I wouldn't do this.

For the HSS brakes though, you tell them your calibre and measure your own barrel specifically with some vernier calipers and give them the measurements.
They have a pretty good wrap from what I've read.
Threading's probably ideal, but more work/cost for you obviously.
