Ruger Scout .223 magazine and feed issues

Post by MelT » 04 Jan 2016, 6:18 am

Hi, I have recently purchased a Ruger Scout .223 and there has been an issue since day one. The second round of ammunition out of the magazine would appear to dive and the first round would jam while trying to feed into the chamber. I returned the rifle to the shop I purchased it from 10 days after purchase who after 5 weeks returned and 'repaired' it by cutting the top of the magazine off. This did not resolve the issue.

Clearly these people should not be in business!!

I purchased a new magazine from delta tactical and the rifle is still having a feeding issue.

NIOA won't help as the company I purchased from did not import it with NIOA.

So $1500 later I have an expensive paperweight.

Any recommendations, preferably in Melbourne, of who I can take my rifle to for repairs?

Thanks Mel

The new mag you bought, was it an identical one or a polymer mag?

I've had luck getting through to Ruger via Facebook messaging - maybe try that during American business hours.

thanks for the suggestions. The mag is the same as the original one... Prior to it being cut by the gun dealer

I had an issue with a ruger .223 rotary mag (not scout) occasionally stovepiping the last round, NIOA sorted it out with a replacement mag and it was a painless experience. Ruger are known for their service and support, but I would first try to find out who the importer was and see if they give you any joy.

Go back to the seller, tell them to get it fixed or you will call consumer affairs. It is the sellers responsibility to fix it or/and chase up ruger, not yours.

If you try to fix it your self the seller will tell you the warranty is void and wipe their hands of it. If they stuff you around spread the bad word. Dont let them get away with it.

That's got me worried.

The magazine is designed the way it is for a reason, and is part of a larger system (the firearm).

If there was a bur or something sticking that needed a whisper taken off that would be one thing, but anything that could be described as "cutting the top off" it is definitely not the answer.

Sounds to me like they just vandalised a faulty magazine where they should have given you a new one.
