Disposing of a wrecked test rifle?

Post by bawoog » 05 Nov 2013, 7:29 am

Hi guys,

I'm thinking about getting an old junker of a rifle for as cheap as possible as a test gunsmithing rifle to have a whirl at a few things.

Bedding, trigger job, re-crowning, and whatever else.

I'd be giving it the works for the first time, and at the end it's probably going to be uselss :D but that's the idea...

Afterwards there probably wouldn't be a buyer for it, so how would I get rid of it?

Obviously I don't want to keep a useless rifle for ever.

Cheers.

Unless you turn it into a complete train wreck, there would still be parts work something at the end.

The bolt, barrel can be trimmed and re-crowned if you wreck it.

Shouldn't be a total write off unless you go crazy.

Not a bad idea though... Get all your novice gunsmithing out on one chuck away rifle instead of risking your valuable ones...

I'm sold.

That's the idea.

Want to test my craftsmanship (or complete lack of :D) on a $200 rifle first.

Then take that to my better stuff once I've learnt the mistakes to avoid.

There will always be someone who'll want the lefts overs for parts or for a similar project.

You'd get something for it once you're finished your experimenting.

Other puny calibre rifles... What man would want you now?
