Bore Guides

Post by John Ryan » 07 Jun 2016, 12:38 pm

So having just gotten into shooting after a very long time pursuing other sports I fell for a petite little CZ 527 in .17 hornet.

As its my first rifle and being a little precious about it
I've been searching for a quality bore guide to match
but no success as yet. ( contacted possum hollow etc but as yet no one makes one to fit my action)

Then thought about using a discarded cartridge instead, drill a hole through the primer pocket a little bigger than your brush and Roberts your fathers brother :D

Thinking it should work well enough until I can procure a guide??

Copper solvents will remove copper from the brass case. Plastic or aluminuim tube will be better.

Plus, if you used a cartridge, you would never get into clean out powder and carbon from the neck area.

Bugger!..Completely forgot about the copper solvent reacting with the brass.
May just have to make do with a guide that doesn't perfectly fit the chamber and action and careful cleaning until there is something on the market.

Bunnings must do a wall of plastic tubing with something suitable in the mix?

Alluminium tube off a tv arial. And a 1" piece of garben hose on it to fit in the action nicely. LOL (for my 3006)

Like bic pen idea, should be ok for my 223 LOL

i just use a garden hose cutting in my cz452.
Probably not the "best" option - but i dont use corrosives, so it works fine and doesn't cost me anything
