To Thread or Not to thread that is the question.

So a precision 6SLR do I thread the barrel or not? I just started considering this the last couple days I thought that at least the option of being able to fit a brake made it worth it even if I decide never to fit one. What say you all??

yay for thread... although I'm not sure how potent this little 6mm would be, if you have the thread cap machined to match the barrel, you will barely know its there....

Not overly potent it's basically a sharp shouldered .243

Do what you want. It sounds like you want to. Why do you want a brake? To see the bullet point of impact?

Yea well it's going to be a varminter. So it would be nice to see POI to make adjustments in the field.

Might be handy for multiple targets, such as a bunch of pigs by a water hole or something.

Personally I'd save the money until you decide to actually put the brake on.

Why do it now? Waste of money if you don't use it in the end, or you might find a brake you want later with a different thread.

Do it when you'll use it IMO.

Reason being as its at the gunsmith now getting a Maddco barrel and I can get it done also most quality brakes come in multiple threads and diameters so I'll find one that fits a common thread size.

If you think you might want it, best get it done now so you don't have to wait with out the rifle in the future.

Get the brake and send it to them, some require indexing which is easy to do if they have it when cutting the thread.

Although not the ideal solution, if you find out later that you have the wrong thread, contact TROS. They can fit any muzzle device to any muzzle.

If not, use some peel washers to index.

I think you have already answered your own question.
Get it threaded.

Well I bit the bullet. ZCR in auburn get their own brakes made in the US and shipped over and he said he prefers not to thread without putting a brake on himself as he wants to make sure it's all done properly.
So I'm getting a brake done while its there.
