Howa 1500 trigger adjustment

Post by KennyA » 01 Jul 2016, 7:12 am

Hi,
I'm looking to lighten off the trigger on your new Howa 1500.
On inspection I see that there is one external adjustment screw at the front of the trigger mechanism .
No rear screw on the trigger assembly.

Does anyone have any reference material on how to adjust this trigger.
I'm looking to remove the massive creep and reduce the pull pressure.

Cheers
Ken.

Massive creep? Howas are usually pretty crispy out of the box, may want to get that checked. Howas are not user adjustable with the stock trigger and require modification. Which being new will void your warranty, food for thought.

There is the famous 'eBay trigger guy' but I'm not sure he still lists his services on eBay. Someone here will know how to find him.

As superduke said send it to Glen Coughlan (ebay trigger guy) he does fantastic work on them and well worth the $60 odd dollars - these triggers are fantastic once he's done is magic to them, he can remove all the creep, some of the creep etc etc and get them very light indeed but I recommend sticking around the 1.2-1.5lb mark which still seems light and very nice to use.

I think his contact details are 0420406165 email gcoughlan@hotmail.com if not send me a pm and I will track him down (he's a member on AHN).

p.s. just undo the lock nut and wind the screw in or out (can't remember now) it will make a bit of diff but nothing like what glen will do to it trust me) I used a standard Howa trigger (vangard rifle) and man was it ordinary, reminded me of the wifes Ruger before I worked it) almost needed to hook a 4by up to it to get that bastard to go bang it was that bloody horrible, now that I swapped springs and did a bit of honing and polishing it's a rippa too.

howa 1500 has a 2 stage trigger and "no"creep...I think you have the take up confused with creep

Hi BigfellaScott & all

I appreciate this is an old thread, though found it during a Google search looking for Howa trigger solutions.
I have just joined this forum and not allowed to use the PM feature as yet (being a newbie).
I have recently purchased a Howa 1500 .308 with Bravo stock and 27x50 FFP ZeroTech scope for 500m target shooting.
Yes, the trigger pull is way too heavy and would be keen to get it reduced.
I haven't had any success in getting a reply from my contact attempts to the Glen C (as given in your post above), so not sure if he is still doing that work.
Do you have current contact details for him or know of anyone else that does good work at reasonable prices?
There is an eBay guy (Gunbloke) that advertises 1.5lb Howa triggers, though not sure about how good they are? https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Howa-1500-R ... 2772363345
Any help would be appreciated.
Cheers,
David

Just heard back from Glen and he does not do any commercial trigger or gunsmith work anymore.

its easy there is one spring that creates creep, REMOVE IT, then lighten up the other spring, in some just swap out the small spring into where the big one was and leave the other out, I have done this, my trigger is crisp as, 0 creep and haired off beautifully

PM me if you want more detail, cheers

Never thought I would ever be working on triggers in my life .... I don’t know anything about guns. To me they are just tools ...but with aftermarket parts, u tube, Internet forums , stuff becomes possible

Thanks to you all for your replies and advice.
I have now ordered a eBay GunBloke spring kit for both my Howa .308 and Browning A-Bolt II .223 rifles.
Will install them myself with help from the instructions they provide and You Tube videos on it I can find.
Will let you know how it goes.

I found that by being patient, wearing glasses and a head torch , and by working in a clean environment where tiny parts could not be dropped and lost , it goes alright

Agreed x 10.
I did my howa on the missus white doona - note to self - those springs contain grease...and yes, my eye is healing nicely, thanks for asking...
Also - he ll send you a little plastic case and when you open it, you’ll say “ffs, could only happen to me, he’s left a spring out of the kit - fukn grest...” BUT sneaky bugger puts one spring inside the other!!!
I couldn’t believe the difference it made...unbelievable.

My eyes are so bad that when the springs from gunbloke turned up inside the little plastic capsule that I thought I was supposed to put the capsule in the trigger assembly I had no idea. On closer inspection I realised the plastic Capsule was a protective cover. And inside I found two springs instead of the one I was expecting .....same thing when I’m driving along the road and up ahead I see someone standing on the side of the road but as I get closer I realise it’s Not a person just a wheelie bin ......but at night in the paddocks with my thermal binos I can spot pigs up to 1500 m away so I spose that’s all that really matters

Hey Blr,

Can I trouble you for a copy of the instruction mate. I bought a set for my 6.5 a while back. And my missus chucked out everything to the bin. Had to go through the rubbish to find the little capsule. Did not realise about the instruction until I was about to change the spring. Did send a message to Gunbloke, but did not get any response.

If I was not slightly relaxed from the rum I had with my dinner I might actually read those directions to see if I did the job correctly the other day. It’s slightly rewarding knowing that I saved travel and gunsmithing fees on the two rifles when I was always expecting to not be able to do it myself
