Replacement bolts?

Post by p3seven » 10 Jul 2016, 5:26 pm

Having misplaced my bolt pouch (somewhere between SA and Qld) containing bolts for my Howa 243 W and Savage mark II 22lr .

Is there a market somewhere on the net or in real life where one can buy relpacements?

I know gunsmithing will be required but the cost and delays in obtaining replacements may make obtaining new ones costly.

I believe a bolt for 243 W is common to 308 and some other calibres?

Your suggestions most welcome

Pacific tool and gauge do Howa bolts. Not cheap and they are very slow to deal with.

What a blody terrible loss.

Have you called some firearms shops ?

I would have thought they wouldn't be that difficult to order.

+1 that is a disaster. Could be costly to state the obvious. Bloody good luck.

Yes Howa bolt $450 + gunsmithing to fit. Howa barrelled action $650. Would probably go with the new barrell/action sure of fit then.

Savage bolt 3 month wait. Which is giving me the sh*** as planes fly back and forth daily.

I would think bolts are all made to the same spec within manufacturing tolerances so not sure if gunsmithing would be required since these manufacturing tolerances would be very small, if someone has a bolt you could borrow and some go- no go gauges you could figure it out.

As for .308/.260 rem /7mm-08 bolts fitting the .243w I would say it's possible, I cannot imagine they would make different bolts for the same parent case which would cost more to manufacture, if I was the engineer in charge I would boot someone up the ass if they wanted calibre specific bolts for anything from the .308 case family.

You could be excused for using words like, FU(KERY ! , SH1TFULL ! and CRAPTATIONAL !

I'd be too pissed for words for a week if that happened to me.

2 new rifles coming up by the sounds of it. Not good mate but ya not the first person to lose their bolts and usually ends up being "Buy a new rifle time"

New rifle!

The suggestion of the mob in the states will be too pricey. Any second hand ones are very rare.

Quicker and easier to destroy current ones and get two new ones. Maybe if it comes to destroying the current ones you could part them off i.e. Sell stocks, triggers etc separately to make a little money back at least.

I have insurance but covering all bases first.

I have located a Savage rimfire bolt they are quite common amongst several of their 22lr styles. Buying a second hand 22 is cheaper than new bolt and will be in my hands in 1/3 of the time ( PTA 28 days) will take our good suppliers to import. Fit for a 22lr should not be a problem

I will replace the centifire with a barrelled action. As this seems to be the safest bet.

Am a waiting on feed back from the last range l shot at. Should hear back Sat evening.

No reply from the police stations l eMailed. Probably cause they were not rapid fire, fear and loathing engendering weapons of mass destruction.

There's no money to be made trying to help people.

Perhaps they're busy trying to work out if they can prosecute you :sarcasm:
