Second Post, new mill, first foree into some gunwork.

Second post!
So with 1 semester remaining on my masters I decided to get myself the mill I wanted... (Actually the only one that would fit in my garage)...
This is my first attempt at a simple muzzle break for the .243. I hope when I finish my study (unrelated to gunsmithing) maybe a gunsmith might take me on part time to show me the ropes!

Anyway, my first ever gun part, on a manual lathe and mill.
Enjoy!
I ddn't get to tumble it cause the motor broke, theres a project for tomorrow... blarghgh.

I still have an anodising setup from when I used to make motorcycle parts... can't be assed getting it out, takes up room and is messy...

I like the shape of these muzzle brakes I reckon they work well and look great.

Thanks so much guys! It took a full day as I was learning the mill at the same time. The taper fits perfectly onto the barrel, I'll test it next week at belmont. If you are there and want to try the rifle with and without and give me some feedback I'd love to hear it. Since the mill is manual at the moment designs are limited, christmas time I'll convert it to a very nice CNC mill. Can't wait to do that project... damn I gotta fix my tumbler and setup anodizing again...

In the mean time, maybe I should make one for someone on here for some more feedback on design...??? Once I test mine of course.

Guys someone asked me yesterday if it was legal to make your own muzzle brakes for your rifle etc without an armorers license? I figured it was since you weren't playing with receivers etc, it's just a bolt on mod like a scope or scope rings. Can anyone confirm? I was under the impression brakes were totally legal?

In basic terms if you can buy it without showing your license you can make it

Nice job mate

Might be worth checking out the Terminator range of brakes from UnZud. He does a very good comparison of the different brakes on the market but the most helpful thing to you might be how he tests them. A fairly simple rig using a slide, pulleys and a weight to put a number on recoil rather then rely on "feel". Great work, if the first version looks this good then I'll be signing up for 1 in .308 if you decide to go commercial :)
