Left handed stock with right handed action

Post by Muddy1967 » 13 Nov 2013, 4:17 pm

Due to an eye injury as a child I find I have to shot left handed.

I am naturally right hand dominate and find throwing the bolt is best done right handed.

I would be very interested if anyone knows of a left handed thumbhole stock but with a right handed action (bolt slot)?

The .222 I am shooting now has a right handed Monty Carlo stock and is not too bad, however I am in danger of catching my thumb with the bolt when I cycle the action.

Thanks Guys,

Clay.

I haven't seen anything like that but have you seen a crossover stock? they're made to shoot off one shoulder but aim from the opposite eye e.g. shoulder on the right and sight with your left eye.

No such thing as far as I know.

You're either a righty, or a lefty, or a lefty who's gotta learn to shoot righty.
See you on the firing line.

In a bolt action no.

How about a straight pull though? Eh?

Everyone loves straight pull. :D

Or a Righty who has to shoot lefty.

I will probably go for a left handed .17HMR for my next shooter :(

Mmm 17HMR.

I've got an old .22 that needs replacing. 17HMR for me next too I think.

Muddy,

I posed this question myself a while back. and found that Boydes certainly do a left handed stock to suit a right handed action.

"Boyds'® Replacement stocks come in a variety of makes and models for the Left Hand shooter. Boyds'® left hand stocks are available in the following designs; Classic, Featherweight Thumbhole, Prairie Hunter, and Sterling. Boyds'® also offer 3 different ambidextrous stocks in the following designs; SS Evolution®, Rimfire Hunter, and TactiCool. We offer options for a Left Hand Stock Right Hand Action and Left Hand Stock Left Hand Action."

A mate of mine, when we were kids, used to shoot left handed, or I should say left eyed, but used his right hand at the trigger.
Left shoulder, left hand forward, right hand at the trigger.

Bloody awkward looking, but he could shoot ok. :?

Let us know how you got on.

Hey Muddy,

What happened, did you do anything about a stock.

Boyds have a stock but it is $109.00 so they can't send it overseas. Bugger.
I will try and ring them one night next week to see what can be done.

There are reshipping places that will do it for a fee for you.

Ship it to them in the US, then they forward to you.

Haven't used one myself but it's an option for you maybe?

There is a caveat on Boyd's Website that says they will only mail to an American address if they are authorised exporters.
So I guess that option is out.

Can you not just buy them locally?

I'm sure I've seen them in stores here before for like $120 or something?

Skip the whole shipping drama.

Perhaps contact Boyds again and offer a deal, like $99.00 for the stock, and pay double for something else that's worth bugger all.
Or a bit extra for P&P.
you never know, they might go for it.
