could a gunsmith chamber this?

Hi guys, this case is a 357 max, neck down to 30 cal with a 30-30 style long neck!

Could a gunsmith cut a chamber with a 357 mag reamer and finish of with a neck reamer?

No.
You would need a custom reamer, The reamer needs to cut the base dimensions. If you found a 357 reamer you could get it machined for the neck.
Why such a long neck? Anything over one caliber is a waste, As in the neck only really needs to be .300 long for a 30 cal to keep the projectile correctly aligned with the bore. Plenty are made shorter to give more powder room but no advantage in going longer.

if you went a shorter neck its almost a rimmed 300 blackout. have seen reference to them being cut with a standard 300 blackout reamer then counter-sunk for the rim. 357max brass then sized in standard blackout dies.

Tripod, I have a 100 different crazy ideas for somekind of wild cat running through my head right now. Can't decide which one I like best, can't decided which is best or if any of them are worth the effirt. I am posting a lot to try and get people views and ideas.

I know very little about the art of gunsmithing.

The 357 super mag is like a long neck version of the 30-357 AET I think.

If the chamber can not be cut as suggested the first way, then could it be cut by running a 357 mag reamer slightly short,

followed by running inside that 357 mag chamber to a greater depth a 300 black out followed by a neck reamer to extend the neck?

I honestly am not sure if the answer is yes or no, perhaps I should have a chat with the guy I use for smithing! The thing is that I want to know what I really want before I bug him.

That can work if the smith cuts the rim recess as a separate step and if he doesn't mind pissing around doing an extra 2 steps. Just got to remember after all the smithing is done you still need a set of fls dies. If you want I can pm you a few more idea's that can be done cheaply and easily.
Oh and finding 357Max brass is not easy and if I get there first then it's impossible.

might be better getting a tool maker to make the correct reamer and then going to a gunsmith and getting them to machine it.

Andy
if you want to build something different in 357Max why not splurge on a mice custom double rifle

I've tried rifles for mice, they're light, but just too small :sarcasm:
