Cerakote has replaced Parkerizing?

Post by padaro » 18 Nov 2013, 9:56 am

Hi guys,

I know Cerakote is the current fav for metal finishes, but does anyone do Parkerizing any more?

It doesn't have the fancy colours like Cerakote, but I just sort of like the Parkerizing finish.

Seems a bit more classy with that classic grey :)

Any ideas?

Or if it has died out, it is no good for some reason that I don't know about?

Parkerizing has gone out because Cerakote is basically better all round.

Which finish you prefer is personal choice but Cerakote is harder, wears better, more resistant to rust and so on...

Cerakote is a thinner layer as well I believe, so better for moving parts like bolts where tolerances are small.
See you on the firing line.

Cerakote dose still chip, scratch and rub off. I have a Remington 700 BDL in Cerakote flat dark earth. I was going to do other rifles but after 6 months of use I have decided to stick with good old blueing with my others. Atlesat blueing can be touched up without needing to have the whole thing sand blasted.

Cerekote's not cheap either is it? A couple of hundred bucks to do a rifle or something?

Certainly more expensive than a quick dip in blue.

You could just get it done in Cerakote in the same grey...
Winchester Model 70 Featherweight - .270 Winchester Short Magnum
Uberti 1873 Short Rifle - .45 Colt
Winchester Model 70 Coyote Varmint - .22-250 Remington

That would be the better option IMO...

When everyone's stopped doing it, that's usually a sign something better's available ;)

Cerakote.... it may chip and scratch / rub off if your not carefull but it still looks good, and I'm yet to see any rust on it.
