Shotgun trigger help

Post by Oldbloke » 01 Jan 2017, 12:45 pm

Hi,
I have an old single barrel Stirling 12 g that I recently refurbished the stock & added a red bead.
Its in good nick and I am using it as a camp gun. I'm getting older so its light weight is appealing compared to my U/O.

My problem is the trigger pull on the Stirling is currently 3.5 kg compared with the U/O is about 2.3 kg. So it is fairly heavy. If I could reduce the pull to about 2.5kg it would be great.

Can any one assist with whats involved in lightening the trigger a little. I assume I will need to polish the sear a little & perhaps some other adjustments.
Are they complicated to dismantle and re-assemble?

Just looking for some guidance. The gun isn't worth much so taking it to a gun smith would be a bit silly.

Maybe a lighter spring perhaps?

Yep I can't imagine it would be too flash, so should be reasonable simple I would imagine but hard to say until we see some pics and a quick polish in the appropriate areas should see it working a lot better I would think.

So, here are 2 pics. Cocked and fired. I don't think I can change the spring for a softer one as it will increase lock time.

I'm guessing knock out the two pins at the bottom to remove the trigger and striker. Then polish the sears? I just don't want it all to go "boing"
and not be able to re-assemble it?

Got it apart and resembled OK. The sear on the hammer was rough. Gave it a few rubs with 600 wet and dry wrapped around a needle file. It's still 3.5kg but noticeably smoother so will leave it at that I think. Quit while I'm ahead. :)
