Installing coin into rifle stock

Post by Nick-J » 08 Mar 2017, 8:53 pm

Hi All,

I received a Rossi in 357mag for my birthday and wanted to ask if anyone knows where I could get an engraved coin installed into the stock? I'm in Melbourne if that helps.

Thanks,
Nick

Don't use a gunsmith or a carpenter, get googling for a cabinet maker in your area. Talk to them and let them know what you're looking to do and definitely remove the stock if possible so they can do the job without actually having to handle a firearm.

Get yourself a forstner bit.

Measure your coin. If you can't get a bit the same size, get one slightly smaller.

Measure the depth of the coin
Put some tape around the forstner bit, marking the required depth.
Drill your hole, ensuring you keep you drill square.( a bench mounted drill press is best)
Trace around the coin with a nice sharp blade, do it in multiple light passes, don't try and do it in one cut.

Cut down to the depth of the coin, then carefully relieve the hole with a chisel.

Attach the coin with some aryldite or industrial adhesive.

Go slowly , go carefully.

If you're lucky you'll find a forstner bit the perfect size.

Good luck

Supaduke is on the money. Two things,. if you use a bench drill, set the stop so you can't drill too deep. 2.you will probably need to go to a tool shop, not a hardware store to get any variety in bit size. The hardware stores generally only stock a couple of sizes
