Is a cracked stock a sign of bigger problems

Post by hiyoh » 03 Dec 2013, 2:11 pm

Hi guys,

I'm looking at buying a second hand rifle for cheap - cheap because the stock is cracked.

Other than that, everything looks find to my untrained eye.

Obviously nothing lasts forever so the stocking cracking is nothing to get exciting about in itself, but would this suggest that there is a problem with the action twisting or something lose or whatever?

I wouldn't want to buy it, replace the stock only to have it crack again and get stuck with a lemon.

Thanks for any advice.

Assuming there are no cracks, threaded screws or other lose/problem parts of the action I wouldn't say so.

I assume the rifle is on the higher end of the calibre scale which caused the crack?

It's not a .22LR or anything I assume?

It happens.

As above, as long as there are no obvious problems and the price is worth your while to replace the stock I wouldn't worry about it.

Thanks for the advice guys.

As it turns out someone snatched it up before me. They were obviously less worried than me about the condition :D

Oh well, you win some you lose some.
