Single set trigger for Weatherby VG S2 / Howa 1500?

Post by d3driver » 28 May 2017, 12:07 pm

Hi there, does anyone know where I can get a quality single set trigger to fit my Weatherby Vanguard Series 2? I can't seem to find one at Timney for instance...

Not sure anyone makes set triggers for Howas mate. If you are finding the trigger is too heavy there is a fella by the name of Glen Coughlan (look on facebook) he does heaps of trigger jobs for Howa's etc (got 3 done by him and they are fantastic) I haven't felt the need to replace any of mine with aftermarket triggers as these are spot on now.

Thanks BFS. I've got Glen's details, and will work out if I need his services.

Give Glen a call or try Brownells Australia as Timney do make a trigger for them. Or if you have the ability you can do it yourself and just take your time. http://www.longrangehunting.com/forums/ ... how-52584/

Would the S2 have the HACT Trigger or not? That info is for the old trigger unit.

A Timney is twice the price of a trigger job from Glenn and is still not a "set" trigger.

While you can try to do the trigger yourself, if you bugger it up Glenn will not work on it (doesn't like to fix amateur screw ups) and you will then have to buy the Timney anyway. $60 is cheap for a very clean and crisp trigger.

Yeah my McTikka was the same until I bought another grub screw and filed that down so I could get the max adjustment out of it, it's still slightly too heavy compared to my tuned Howa Triggers (glen coughlan does all my Howa Triggers) so I might have to look at buying a new spring for it as well to get it down where I like them (around 1.2-1.5lb).

Yeah that's the next step to setting up my Tikka, it's almost there but just a little too heavy for what I'm used too and a spring will fix that. What spring did you use one of the YoDave ones?

Thanks for the replies all. I have a factory single set on my Sako P94S and love the option of the very light release by pushing the trigger forward first. I'm looking for the same thing for the VG S2.
