Drilling holes along a stock for weight saving

G'day,

Bubba has been doing some thinking for stock mods

If drilling a series of holes the length of a stock, and through the buttstock, where are going to be the stress points to pay attention too?

I'm assuming use a decent margin around mounts/action screws is the ticket. Most everywhere else should be free game?

The wrist of the stock as well as the heel and the toe of the butt. But my suggestion would be to take off the butt pad and drill your holes lengthwise into the stock that way, the holes are hidden from view. You could also drill a series of shallow holes in the barrel channel in the forearm.
I've been asked: "How many guns do you need to have?" My answer remains the same: "One more."

Yes up the stock, same as a shot gun. You will be lucky to save 2 oz, why bother.

Yeah, if you want a light rifle less steel and plastic stock is the way to go.
