Threading a Bolt Handle?

Post by TBJ » 10 Oct 2017, 11:21 am

Hi, just wondering how hard it is to thread a bolt handle, and where I might be able to get it done and how much it might cost, also wondering if its possible to extend the length of the bolt handle and maybe sweep it back a bit? Just wanting to put a larger bolt knob on my varminting rifle.
thanks

I use the Hornady bolt balls on my Rugers, just press them on.

$15.

Otherwise, I can't see any real difficulty in cutting a thread on a bolt handle as long as you can hold it in position.
Should be possible to mount it into a four-jaw chuck and cut it with a die.

Depending on what thread you want and what diameter the bolt handle is I would probably just run a die over it by hand. If you need to machine it down to suit a certain thread it will be a lathe job

What rifle is it?

Might be a whole lot easier to buy an aftermarket replacement handle which is already what you want

yeah thanks for that I've found some for the Tikka, but finding one for the CZ 527 is proving very difficult
