G'Day Fella's,
The problem with using products like WD-40, CRC 556 and similar, is that these products evaporate and leave no residue behind to protect the metal surface.
For decades now, I have used only two oil products on all my own and my customers firearms.
That being, "Break Free, CLP" on the mechanical working parts of the firearms (rifles, seedguns and handguns) and the Australian made product "Sweets, Gun Oil" on the external metal surfaces and the inside of the barrel (when being stored).
I have not had any issues with rust by using these products but I don't live on the coast.
That being the case, I personally believe these two products, will give your firearms, the best possible protection.
Another product that gets very good reviews for metal protection, is Hornady brand, 'Shield".
Hope that helps
Doh!
