I do a fair bit of sniping over the bonnet, particularly at night time with the NightSite.
I used to put its plastic case on the bonnet, with a coat covering it, and rifle over the top.
That worked out to be the perfect height, but in scanning from side to side, invariably the rifle would slip off the edge of the case.
Which was a bit frustrating in the pitch black darkness.
Not only that, but if I wanted to let go the rifle for any reason I had to make sure it was balanced and on its side.

So I decided to knock this up to make life much easier, and shooting better as well.
Best of all, its hands free when needed to grab more ammo

Used an old swivel base that was made for a TV, and a disc of aluminium chequer plate with rubber feet.
Because its 3 footed, it finds its own level, even on curved bonnets.
Its very light and compact.
I can even use it on the front tray of the quad.
For that matter it could also be set up for prone shooting from a hide etc.

Looks interesting Ed, I look forward to hearing how it works out for you. I like using the bonnet as a rest too, perfect height for me - I use a large sandbag on mine, I just leave the sandbag sitting up near the wipers and I don't have any issues leaving it there and it's ready to use when I spot something to shoot (it's a heavy sucker so ain't worth lifting in and out all the time. It's very stable to shoot from too and like your's I can just sit the rifle there hands free if I need to for any reason, I just position it where it's needed.

Again well done mate, as you know I love making stuff to suit my needs, very satisfying I find.

Nice and stable as you can see - which really aids in those 300m+ shots on bunnies.

Bloody oath Mongrel - they don't always work out the way you expect but generally you can mod them till they do.

Yep, BFS nailed it 1st go.
As you can see by the dust all over em, I pinched em off the Quad. ( I had a double and a single on it )

These particular ones are that good that I've never had to pull the rubber strap over to hold the rifle in place.

Oh,,,,,,, and test report ?????
It works beautifully and have used it quite a few times. (I made it several weeks ago)

Judging by some comments,,, there are some dirty minded buggers out there,
And no Noisydad,,,,,,, I haven't been sniffing around any ex's

They are good hey D, my mate runs em on his Kubota on the front windscreen area and has a couple of sets on the back of the cab too, very handy and they do seem to hang on to em well as he doesn't use the straps either from memory.

I've got an old Bus seat sitting here that I'm going to eventually turn into a shooting seat for the back of the BT, I've got all the metal work here ready to go, the seats old and needs recovering (haven't decided which way to go with that as yet) but it should work a treat I reckon, I'll use the sandbags for the shooting rests I think (I'll see what happens there as I have a few ideas on which may work better) but again trial and error will help determine that.

Just mount an old game chair from a fly bridge rig on the back of the ute and mount a shooting rest where the gimbal goes!

If I had one I probably would knowing me this seats bloody comfy with a spring base just the vinyl. Is falling apart but still useable just a bit unsightly so will get it recovered if it's not too expensive to do or knowing me I will do it in the cheap and just throw some cheap material over it and pin it on.

Now ya got me thinking! would be nice to sit on and keep ya warm too but I might swap the sheepskins for fox skins cos I have access to plenty of them little suckers and they are great at keeping ya warm too I've found.

It's clicked now that you've said it. I don't ride the quads myself so I didn't think of it, but I have seen them around.
