Ruger American Mag

Post by Shootermick » 27 Feb 2025, 5:50 pm

I’m after an aftermarket magazine for my Ruger American 243.
The factory mag is crappy, it’s the Ruger proprietary mag, not the AR style.
Not interested in changing out the stock, a Lucky 13 if I could find one, or something similar if anyone knows of something that would fit.

Or if anyone knows where I could buy the Ruger aics bottom metal (plastic) conversion for my factory stock?

I've never seen the Ruger Nylon btm for sale, maybe send a request to the NIOA and see if they can order it as a spare part

Either have I. It’s apparently available in America, I might send an email and suss out if it’s available here.
It’s not a bad rifle, bolt cycles ok, it’s just the rounds stick in the mag.

Have you tried to fix it?

I’ve tried sanding/smoothing the insides of the mag, plus stretched the ****** out of the spring.
Might keep trying with the smoothing out process, it’ll either loosen up, or I’ll bugger it.

If anyone is interested, NIOA have the AI pattern Ruger factory polymer mag well in stock.
So this will fit the stock with the removable mag well like the Predator, which mine is, but mine is fitted with the Ruger proprietary magazine mag well.
You have to go through a dealer, and I ordered one today together with a 5 round mag, $144 all up with postage to the shop.
Let me know if anyone wants the part number.
