Car jack instead of bipod/rest for shooting

Post by jeener » 06 Jan 2014, 10:54 am

It's funny to see the clever contraptions people come up to say their cash.

I was at the range yesterday and instead of a bipod or 'proper' front rest, a bloke there had a car jack that was sitting on a little sidewards rail.

The car jack went up and down obviously, and for windage adjustment he just gave it a little tap on the rail left or right.

Cool 8-)

Saved himself a few hundred bucks and was shooting good groups :D

The car jack things been done plenty before.

Sitting it on a rail for windage adjustment is a clever twist though.

Must be a pain in the ass making finger adjustments to a car jack

Have the crank handle attached to it as well or what? :D

I haven't got the slide rails, but this old screw / bottle jack works well - $20 for the front rest bag and it was done - strong, stable (and heavy)

Unless you're shooting for ultra accuracy and are just touching the trigger while adjusting the front rest to do all the aiming, you don't need windage adjustment anyway IMO.

$20 and the job's done ;)
See you on the firing line.

Ripper job! Well done! Great to see some more shed projects - it's getting me all inspired again!
There's still a few of Wile. E Coyote's ideas that I haven't tried yet.

Nice reddog.

Definitely sturdier than your average rest.
