Spotlight with internal battery surgestions?

Post by Kelsey Cooter » 24 Jul 2018, 4:48 pm

Im looking to buy a spotlight with an internal battery so I'm not restricted to being attached to the tilly. I've been looking at the Milwaukee m12 spotlight or the m18 spotlight because I've already got Milwaukee tools and love the idea of being able to swap the batterys out, anyone used one?

Anyone have or used any others that are worth buying?

I just had a read of pete1's review of the spika spotlight that he put up in February and he straight away said the charge time/battery was the only real downside. But the price sounds real nice

Fully charged filters off, you get a good bright spot about 20m diameter at 300, with my Hawke 10-50×60 scope I can easily pick up a rabbit out to 350.
I don't use the filters, the red is too dark and you'd need eyes like an owl to pick one up past 80.
The green gives a much better light, 200 is no problem but what puts me off is the amount of light transfered backwards from the edges. If you had someone on the spot it wouldn't be a problem for the shooter, but I always shoot alone.
The spot in the second pic is at 160.

I've ended up deciding to go with the Milwaukee m12 spotlight, purely because I've already got the batteries and charger, and I love the 5 year warranty. So i figured for $147 hopefully it works out good

Are you happy with the Milwaukee tools in general? I have to replace a heap of tools that have been stolen.

Yes 100% happy with them. Of course anyone you talk to is going to have their favourite brand, but we have about 5 grinders, 3 rattleguns, 3 drills, impact drivers, a few different work lights and some other random tools like a pruning saw and can't fault any of the gear. We've had warranty work done on a grinder, a light and a rattlegun and they were fast and didn't question anything when we sent the tools back. Pretty much all us farmers here in Proserpine use Milwaukee because the local bloke sells it, so I can't really compare other brands as its all I've used. Sydneytools tends to have the best prices

That's good to hear. Sydney tools do have some very good deals, and my local one is close to a Total Tools so its easy to do a comparison.

Will to interested to see how it goes! I'm a bit of Milwakee tool fan myself. I mainly use the M12 stuff at work. But I have a fair bit of the 18 volt stuff also.

I have a Ryobi +1 18 volt xenon spotlight and it is brighter than the sun, pretty sure when I was looking at reviews, the Ryobi was the second brightest available in that style of torch whith the Milwaukee being the brightest so I don’t think it will disappoint. Couple of things that let this style down are weight and start up time, they take maybe 20 seconds to warm up and reach full brightness.

I also run one of the Spika rechargeables and have found it to be a great little spottie, run time is better than I thought it would be when I first got it and it charges pretty quick, it’s nice and light in the hand and it is threaded for mounting so makes a good backup on my quad if I’m doing a quick run on smaller properties and don’t feel like hooking up the Lightforce..

Hi kelsey...
Im keen to know what you can actually pick up with the naked eye mate...
As marksman asked above, a bunny at 200 is a good all-round yardstick i also like to use...

If you get a chance, id be really keen to hear how wide the spot is at 300...& if you can easily see bunnies at around the 200 mark...

Cheers...

I use one of these. Got it mainly for use in the boat however works well in the paddock also. Can be used with or without a connection to the vehicle.
