I've got an MTM shooting rest that has an adjustable front rest, pretty easy to use and heaps of elevation. Also has a tray so I just put my hand in front of the ejection port and empty brass drops into the tray.

Nice kit. and affordable for what it is. But add another $20 for postage and handling ,brings it up to $86. .

Unfortunately, I'll still have to explore the DIY option

I would think the best DiY option is a day pack with some clothing in it.

Nah. Too agricultural.

Besides I don't reload and need something to do on a rainy day.

Agricultural?
Is this for competition or field use?

Why don't you want to use a bipod?

What don't you like about the ones you have seen? Even a cheep Harris can do the job and is less bulky to carry than a car jack and a bag of sand.

I dont want to install a bipod and carting yellow pages along to the range aint my idea of fun either.

Not sure what your front sandbag is...but mine is a caldwell tackdriver.
I used to use a block (off-cut) of 190x45 pine under it at the range to get the elevation i needed.
If i use it over the bonnet or on the ground out in the field & need a tad more elevation, i just turn it on its side. :)

I use my swag but it’s all a bit low tech around here!
On the plus side though, if you happened to feel a little sleepy you could just curl up for a nap!
