At long last Son Of Noisy is getting his AB license but his egg donor won’t let him bolt a safe to their house so I’m building him one that meets the 150 kg required to not bolt it down. In fact it weighs 173 kg atm and climbing.
It’s dimensions are 1500 x 450 x 350 and were determined by the cupboard it’ll be housed inside. The whole thing is 4 mm plate. Just the door weighs 31 kg! The door has a document holder on it to hold rego papers etc. and the door is removable to aid installation.
The steel weight came up a little short so there’s 4 lead bars of 12 kg each under a welded in false floor.
The locking mechanism has five pins up each side that lock behind the door jam so the recessed door can’t be opened even if the outside hinges are cut off. It was a fiddly sod to fabricate but the next one (which will be for me) will take half the time and not need the extra weight.
I reckon there’s about $200 in steel and bolts and stuff in it. I’ll take it to work and weigh it on our weighbridge so there’s a supporting weighbridge docket to certify it’s weight.
