IR illuminator torch

Post by Die Judicii » 09 Aug 2019, 8:04 pm

Just bought one to compliment an IR sight I've had for quite a while.
I know SFA about these things.
If your not supposed to look into the beam, and its invisible from behind the torch,,,,,, how the heck are you supposed to see that it's aligned properly,,
and,,,,, how do you know how wide to adjust the spread of the beam ??

FWIW,,,,, I haven't even turned the thing on yet,,,,, so I may be asking silly questions. :unknown:

well one would assume you are using night vision with it? i would then assume that you would simply look through that device at something you have preset to be illuminated to know if the torch is on point?

My problem with them is how do you tell when it's on!
I leave the batteries out, taped to the side until I use it.

Yeah Mate, that's a given.

I just (after reading the meager and mostly useless "destructions" that came with it) went out and tried it.

Preset it to maximum output,, and middle of the range spread.
Turned on my Night vision set up,,, and whilst looking through it, I turned on the Illuminator torch and pointed it in the desired direction.

Result, Nil.

Waved the torch back and forth, up and down,,

Result, Nil

Tried the different beam functions with the button,,

Result, Nil (No difference at all)

Went to turn it off, and then realised that there is no on/off indicator light, and given that a different function in beam intensity is supposed to happen with each click of the button I now don't don't know if the infernal thing is supposed to be on or off.
So I pulled the battery out, and packed it away.

Will ring the supplier tomorrow,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, NOT HAPPY AT ALL.

Exactly Mate,,,,,,,, as i just found out.
For a top of the range item surely they could've addressed that.
After all,,,,, USB ports have on/off indicator Led's

I’ve got an IR torch that gives no indication if it’s on or not.
What I’ve got to do is make sure is if the batteries are in the right way or not. Normally takes me a few goes.
Check that part is correct Die J, not trying to be a smart arse, it’s got me a few times now

Before I got into thermal gear I had a nv scope that had a short pic rail on the side of it The wolf eyes IR torch just clipped onto the rail solidly and because of the broad beam alignment was no prob When I look though my scope there is a very distinct difference between IR on / off so sounds like your torch is not working at all ......contrary to general opinion of IR light being invisible to game I have noticed that game reacts slightly to it. They don’t just up and run for the hills but they sort of seem aware that all is just not quite right
