Self healing targets

Post by jays » 21 Feb 2014, 1:44 pm

Hi guys,

Anyone use the "self healing" targets for practice?

My local has got a few bright orange prairie dogs and cubes and stuff. They seem really friggen hard though, I can't see the holes healing up as much as they imply.

Experience with these things?

"Self healing targets"....aren't they called "Animals"?
There's still a few of Wile. E Coyote's ideas that I haven't tried yet.

TBH there is nothing 'healing' about them at all.

They're just not brittle plastic which will shatter and break apart.

You're just gradually turning them into Swiss cheese and, like anything, you can only put so many holes through it before it comes apart completely.

If you just want something to hit and aren't going for a bullseye a bottle honestly isn't a terrible idea.

Otherwise get one of the rolling targets which moves area and deflects the energy to avoid damage instead of just lasting for X amount of shots.
See you on the firing line.

They're not real cheap either. My LGS has self healing prairie dog targets and they're $90 or something.

I think they say they last 200 shots with a .22 cal.

Less with a bigger calibre obviously and I suspect less by a lot.
