Custom cut case foam

Post by CAVEMAN » 13 Dec 2020, 9:15 am

Morning all

Has anyone out there had custom cut foam made for their firearms.

I have a few cases with the pick and pluck stuff. But I would like something more permanent.

Anyone in particular to see other than say Clark rubber?

How did you go about getting them to size up firearms and magazines, take them in or just supply sizing's?

And cost if you would care to share.

Years ago I made a guitar gun case and custom cut a piece of foam from Clark rubber.

I used 3 layers of foam. 2 cut to suit the case for top and bottom and one cut to shape for the rifle as middle.

I traced out the design and cut it with a long blade. I've since learned that bread knives cut foam really well.

Once cut the 3 pieces we're glued into place with contact adhesive.

Finally a piece of velvet was tailored and glued inside.

It came up mint

H mate
I have looked into the custom laser cut foam for some of my pelican rifle cases.
It's bloody expensive to do. One guy quoted around $350 plus, for each case.
If you get it done, it will only fit the rifles you have cut to that size. If you want to use the case for other rifles, you have to remove that foam and place other foam, that is cut for that specific rifle. If you are using the same case for the same rifles every time, then no problems.

That might be my option, sounds like custom would be a tad pricy. Just after better than the pluck apart stuff.

Maybe have a look on eBay for a hotwire foam cutter and do it yourself. They are pretty cheap. I have on that I use for polystyrene. It works great.
It would also work on the foam you are talking about

Son has built a could of gun cases. He has the foam cut to size and delivered from Clark rubber and uses a box cutter to cut out shape
