Be good to get some up to date knowledge of what's on offer out there that is local.
Throw out any info on Aussie made kit that deserves a shout out.

Blackfoot Designs
Aussiemade camo clothing - tough cotton shirts, jackets and pants - what hunting gear used to be like before the marketing gurus got their hooks into us.
Actually for us oldies specialised hunting gear was army disposals camo or flannos and jeans

Kit = gear, could be anything really. Always on the hunt for some locally made products.

I am finishing a contract soon and heading back to Aus. Not that my pockets are full of cash, but after 9 months I want to get outside and have some fun and it feels like it has been an age since I have had a chance to get some new toys! (or gear that goes with the toys I already have)

Hi LJC, but either I'm too too bloody old (over 70yo) to understand but I am not clear on what you call "Gear".

Are you talking about Reloading Gear, Firearms Gear, Clothing Gear, Footware Gear or what...????

Sorry but "Gear"... how long is a piece of string.......

Been on the "Land" for well over 40 years and I have never used anything special in the way of gear to go out and have a shot.

Apollo,,,,,
Not quite 70,,,,, but getting there.
As I take it,,,,,, "gear" could be anything that could be found useful at any given time. ie: your piece of string.

,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,"kit" is I think an Americanised word possibly taken from the forces that probly is synonymous with "gear"

Yep,,, gimmee the old genuine Army Disposals stores anytime.
Nowadays they are full of sh!t that is made in China

Getting there... Got that.... I remember some time ago we asked who was the Oldest on Enough Gun...I won....perhaps still do.

I can see the reason for the Topic Question...BUT... These days until you actually look at a lot of things you don't know where it's made.

Example... I purchased a Leupold Range Finder... Thinking Made in the USA... NO...Until I got the actual box it said.. Made in China... Sent Leupold an email complaining and was told it's their factory with their quality control and warranty... Sorry. I'm not happy but after 10 years it still works but not the point.... I don't want any of my money I pay for anything going to China...Sorry...!!!

Oh!..and the Cast Iron BBQ Plate made by a customer in Auburn NSW... visiting their Foundry and seeing what it was all about was eye opening from a Bank Johnny with no idea but just checking out their business,,,then asked if I wanted a BBQ Plate.... Hell yes, come and watch how it's made.. hell yes... Week later, go pick it up. They were the days when people went out of their way to help others....

I would pay twice, three times or more as much for anything Aussie Made.... If it's quality.

Sorry, that's me.....

I breed Aussie Angus Beef and I can guarantee it's Aussie Made..... :sarcasm:

I wouldn't consider paying hundreds of dollars for a laser, but they do have uses.
Swapping sights without having to re-zero for example.
Shooting rats in the shed with an air-rifle in poor light.
Also very useful for load development on firearms that don't easily mount a scope or don't have sights.

Absolutely useless leading moving targets of course :-)

I checked them out, having an interest in that sort of thing. Was shocked by their prices, and from what I gather these are just the diodes with drivers and case. No mounts or similar. Happy to be corrected though

Using pilfered bits and buying a driver you can make some quite powerful lasers for under $10 or so.

Well, I'm sorry but I think it's going to be hard.

Some specific items like Boots and Coats etc I'd say unless someone can give you an example to something you asked about is going to be hard.

My pet hate is to find out big name products when you get them say "Made In China" and that really s**ts me to think I've be done over yet alone someone in Australia that has had employment suffer... eg my example of a Leupold Range Finder...... If I knew it was Made In China I would not have bought it...Simple...

Other than say Kit or Gear how about some specific items like Boots and Coats and other stuff and ask what people have but make a point of locally manufactured...

As I have said....cheaper overseas so what might be 10 bucks posted I'd rather pay say 30 bucks if it was made here in Oz and support my mates.

Now, I don't mind importing stuff or buying imported stuff that we can't get in Oz BUT BUT as long as it doesn't come from bloody China...

If everyone hasn't got the hint .... I hate this "Made In China" s**t story.... stuff the Wung Flu Pricks.....

Sorry about the rant... ;)

Far from it.
These lasers are complete with windage and elevation adjustments, pressure switch, mounting hardware, water tight and fully serviceable, high quality laser that holds its dot size and shape for a great distance (You won't get that with a $10 diode) .guaranteed to withstand any recoil you can throw at it.

I've played with cheap laser sights before buying mine from laserex, they're worlds apart.
The laser I bought from them is extremely compact, its about the size of a Bic lighter, perhaps smaller.

Unfortunately their website isn't the best.

I think we are on the same page mate. The entire point here was to just learn about gear/equipment/items/guns/boots/whatever that people like that they know they can give an Aussie made tick of approval.

That would explain it. The picture didn't show complete set up, and the description sounded like you could use that item to make a laser sight if you wanted

I am wondering if they make the diodes themselves and everything, or if they just mount imported components

"Kit" is an English term. I have heard quite a few poms refer to stuff as a nice "bit of kit" it can relate to anything from the experiences I have heard it used in.

Buying a made-in-China product here does not make "employment suffer". Companies here owned by Aussies, with Aussie employees, feeding Aussie families all benefit from Chinese products imported and sold here. More local people benefit this way than from a small "100% Australian" company that only employs two or three people.

Leupold has never been made in Australia to my knowledge.

My sub-$40 Chinese lasers also have built-in windage and elevation adjustment, mountings, remote switches and are more than sufficiently capable of anything I might want to use them for.
https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Tactical-Green-dot-Laser-Sight-Scope-Pressure-Switch-20mm-Rail-Mount-hunting-/252268727332
Except that I could probably buy ten of them for the price of buying one Aussie "made" one whose components likely come out of the same factory. Even the tiny ones built into rings and mounts are fairly usable. These are visible to 100m in daylight without difficulty, probably a lot further through a scope. Mine appear to be exactly the same unit as theirs.
https://www.ssaa.org.au/?ss_news=laserex-technologies-launches-gls-520-green-laser-sight

I don't suppose anybody has tested one of theirs alongside the cheap ones? I would but I can't justify the $250-odd dollars for one. I'd love to see if it does the job six times better.

I bought this one in early 2015 and it gets used for all sorts of things. It's currently mounted on a 12ga. for testing 9mm loads.
