Shooting Sticks

G’day Gents

Has anyone here manufactured their own set of sticks, or can recommend any particular brand?

Not sure but I think I recently saw a photo that Oldbloke posted with a home made set?

I've made my own before just by tying a couple of bamboo poles together.
Later I made another set using adjustable tent poles bolted together near the top. Both worked well,the tent pole ones were fairly heavy though.
I've thought about making another set using one of these little tripod camp chairs as a basis,but I haven't gotten around to it yet.

Yep, I use them. Some like em, some don't. A great rest and very light weight. I don't like the idea of anything attached to the forend such as bipods. Can be a bit cumbersome if something like a fox arrives from the wrong direction. But I guess that's life.

Posting a pic of basic stix made of 12mm dowel. 900mm long. This length works for me just sitting on the ground with a piece of foam under my arse. Lol. Also a folding set. Made from one of those tent poles with Elastic inside. Just folds up and fits in my bag nicely.
I use a knot to tie them and posting a youtube link on how to do the knot. There are plenty of other options but that's what I use.

I have a longer set made out of aluminium tube off an old TV arial about 1400mm I think for if I use a small stool.

Some just use a cheap camera tripod. Lol Fit some sort of "V" or platform on top I guess.

That is a very well thought out product. If I still hunted I'm damn sure I would buy such a thing.

That is bloody impressive design.
But there must be some reason that everybody isn't using them already.

Thanks for the input gents, sincerely appreciated. A few good ideas there for sure. Definitely beats paying $350 for a commercially manufactured set.

10 mm wooden dowels A pair. Not 3 .tied with string. Jammed into my belt so I have hands free otherwise .. it don’t hurt to carry a bit of cord so u can make em in the field

Couple of times I have been in the field and realised I have left my pair of sticks back at camp or back at my quad. That’s when the always carried string comes in I just look for a suitable couple of sticks in the Bush Resting on a couple of feral looking bent hastily formed sticks is better than resting on thin air

I think if you wanted to make up a pair, then timber would, in my opinion, be better has anything metal has obviously that metallic sound that seems to travel quite a distance.

Thinking I shall grab a couple of lengths of dowel today and give the cheap easy option a crack and see how they go.

Yep, use them a lot for black-powder silhouette and long range, ( out to 1000m) . Mine are home made from a couple of pieces of 1 & 1/4 x 3/4 " hardwood and have a bolt through them for use on ranges. They can be set up for prone or sitting position by simply moving the bolt. I have used a long set for standing, they also worked well. I don't carry them in the field but they can be made from very light timber and still be quite stable. They provide vertical stability.

I have used a pair of sticks crossed in my support hand, not tied together. I've also used a single stick, which supports the weight of the rifle, but doesn't stop your side sway.
