Ammo crate powder handling base station :)

Anyone who's ever tried to load at the range during load development will know the biggest issue is weighing powder. The wind can play havok with beam scales and probably even digital scales as well. Add to that most ranges don't have access to power to run your charge master etc.

On Friday I acquired a 7.62 ammo crate (thanks Mad Mick) and decided to turn it into a mobile powder handling unit.

Avert thing including a bottle of powder fits inside then at the range I fit the redding BR 30 thrower to the top, fill it with powder and put a couple of charges to set it, emptying them into the trickler.

Then I can throw either directly into the case for known loads or into the Lee pan/ funnel to thick the scales are zero'd. The little extension on the trickler allows me to trickle charges up to the desired weight without getting my hands inside the box.

Still to be added are a couple of adjustable feet so the box can be levelled and a thumb screw so I can remove the trickler for emptying.

Enjoy.

It was a common practice in labs yonks ago, but they use glass cases. New use for an old idea, great. Thanks for sharing. :D

I've seen one guy trying to do it by making a little tent out of his windbreaker and trying to hunch in under it.

Didn't seem to be working great

The only thing better than making new stuff is making new stuff out of old stuff! Great idea!
There's still a few of Wile. E Coyote's ideas that I haven't tried yet.
