Trigger guard comes off with floor plate?

Post by Tonit » 10 Oct 2013, 8:07 pm

Hi guys,

I was at my LGS and was planning on picking up a trigger lock for the rifle.

Standing there with it in my hand it dawned on me... Unless I'm missing something, if you just unscrewed the floorplate of the rifle you'd take the trigger guard and lock off in one swoop right?

You wouldn't have a trigger guard, but you could shoot no problem.

Makes them kind of useless... ?

Yep.

If you want a lock that has some effect, get one which goes through the action.

They're just an additional precaution for some temporary security, like when transporting your rifle.

They're not intended to be anything more than that.

That picture's a .22? Which is why there is the plate and the lock is on the outside?

On a larger calibre the padlock goes directly through the action, right?

Any lock will only keep out an honest thief, and is nothing an angle grinder can't fix. When travelling, best option is make sure they wont find the bolts.Even if I stop at a pub for a meal on the way,I carry the bolt of my own rifles with me in my pockets, and try to park the car within line of sight from a window while I eat. I lived in Belmore in Sydney for 8 years when I was a teenager and I know how quick some c&*nts can go through a car. Give em 3 mins and they wont even need to cut a wire to remove a complex sound system and a set of rims!

That's sounding like more practical advise I gotta say.

Harder to get a new bolt than cut a lock I'm sure.
