Biathlon sling for hunting

Post by flap » 08 Dec 2014, 8:05 am

Anyone gone the biathlon sling for hunting?

Reckon there is a real benefit in forking out the cash for one for casual walk about... or just a bit of wank if we're being honest?

I bought one of these from http://www.deltatactical.com.au/tab-gear-biathlon-sling-p273/ only because it makes grunting 13kg of Giant Bunny Vaporiser around the back paddock much more comfortable. Well made and good quality though expensive....

They work, there is no doubt of that.

Some people might think it's a bit of a wank anyway but I'm sure you'll survive their odd looks :P

I've got a DIY job I made out of a camera bag harness.

Love it, much better than one sling band tugging on the shoulder.

Happy to assist with detailed photo's and measurements if you need them :) If I knew anyone able to sew the webbing I'd be making my own as well.

yeah I've made quite a few things with the old sewing machine (self taught off youtube lol).. i guess i'm just a tight a** and don't like paying retail!

well, that's another project for my holidays! might start with an old backpack that has good shoulder straps and see what i can come up with from there.

would love to get some more pics if you don't mind posting them?

cheers

Finally some pictures. All webbing is 1.5" of what looks to be very tough nylon. The left shoulder strap has an added length that can be unfolded from the buckle allowing you to form a triangle sling grip for added stability. Excuse the mess on the bench, I've been making OAL gauges for some of the bigger guns. One of the good parts is that the studs can be removed and fitted with regular sling mounts without messing around with stitching.

I've got almost 13kg of 50BMG Bull pup hanging off it and it's surprisingly comfortable the weight spreads nicely across the lightly padded shoulders.

There are buckles on each side to allow for quick removal in order to vaporise giant bunnies without delay. The only tip is to ensure it's slung with the bolt facing away from the bum unless your keen on a little nob action down there.

Being a bull pup there's not much barrel above the shoulders so nothing to smack your head or snag branches. All up I'm very happy with it.
