Well, I'm home at long last,, ( 5 weeks ) and under strict physical limits at least for another 8 weeks.
My Girls (dogs) havnt left my side in over 6 hours.
Lucy my Rottie is laying on the floor just outside the office door, as I type but with the head in the doorway.
She sounds like a Western Star climbing a mountain when she is snoring.

Well I can now access and upload some pics of my safe that I built.
I wont go into details for obvious reasons,, but suffice to say that I built into it many tool breaking / burning experiences for any would be thief.
Some rather nasty ones as well.

As I said previously about the scene on the door that was hand painted by my good friend and top tattooist,, I applaude his skill every time I look at it.

Good to see your'e back on deck mate, nothing like escaping Hospital hey. That safe looks like a cracker mate, very very nice job on it. Love the dogs too, there's nothing like a dog that's loyal ;) .

Five weeks in in dry dock? Bet it's good to be home and feeling something that resembles normal! Hope I don't ever have a stay in hossy - I wont be a very patient patient!
There's still a few of Wile. E Coyote's ideas that I haven't tried yet.

My girl insists on sleeping with her neck cramped against the couch or hanging off the bed at a 90 degree angle for maximum snoring.

The door lifts off easily from the looks of it?

Handy for moving it if/when you ever had to.

Hey Mods...

WTF?

I just tapped out a reply for the members... went to submit it... Message pops up saying "I have to log in to be able to post" or words to that effect.
The entire draft disappeared... yet I'm still logged in.

Try again... same result.

Tap the back button... it shows I'm still logged in.

How can I be logged in yet at the same time NOT logged in?

If you're logged out, the back button isn't the way to go.

I've had this on a few sites due to my internet changing connections at work it logs me out.

If I follow a link to get to the page I want after getting booted I'm still logged out. If I click back though the browser loads the page it already had where it says I was logged into. But it's out of date info, refreshing it of following link again shows accurately that I was logged out.

It's to do with out internet provider changing our IP address or something.. Happens to me on my mobile a bit too moving around.

Maybe something the same on your end?

Maybe mods can explain technical side of things better than I did though...

Workmanship of the safe itself does look good. Very good.

Can't say I love the painting on it but I never do... Just preference there.

"tapped out a reply..." on your mobile are we talking about?

To get the quoted reply posted I assume you logged in again and returned to the post to reply, not hitting back. Correct?

PM if it's going to be too much and will disrupt your topic.

I suspect something similar to what Ariat described but let me know and we'll sort it out.

Hi Aster,

We really must stop meeting like this...

I answer to your Q... I was on my home Desktop.

I fail to see how I was able to type the reply in the 1st instance if I was not logged in.

So I must've been logged in until the moment I clicked on "SUBMIT"

Then it said I couldn't reply to a subject on this forum > unless I was logged in. (words to that effect)

Meanwhile, the total draft "disappeared"

Beats me.

Thanks to the comments from the other member/s on the subject.

Some of that may well be correct, and also sorta makes some sense to me, but it's f*#@ing frustrating.

Thanks one and all for the positive feedback,,,, I know only too well you cant please everybodys tastes.

I'll try again to post what I was gonna reply the other day.

Norton,,,,,,, No mate, not just 2 locking bolts. :D A total of twelve hardened and tempered chromium steel shafts. The mechanism was a bit of a headache to build and get working smoothly, but well worth it in the end. There are lots of other goodies built into both the door itself as well as the cabinet, even temperature sensitive stuff that'll "floor you"

kritch,,,,,,,,, Yeah mate, the door (although fkn heavy) lifts off the hinges real easy once the door is open. But when installed, swings that easy you'd swear it was on ball bearings.

Cheers to all

Absolute Bare Weight ( empty and without the door ) is 175 kgs

(just realized, I posted the weights etc before, but forgot to add the weight of the door)

So, the safe including the internally bolted plates of steel in the base (added after safe is in position) is 316 kgs.

The weight of the door itself I never actually weighed cos I didn't get it back till late after the mural was painted.
I would estimate that as being approx. 120 to 130 kgs (worked out by the book,,, of weight per sq meter, and weight per meter etc)

So, all inclusive, probably the entire weight would be pretty close to 436 kgs.

:D :D

Great that you can just about cut the weight into 3rds if you need to move it.

You don't move a safe everyday so some people don't think it's a big deal, but I say it's smart design and that always deserves brownie points.

 If (and I mean IF) you could cut the hinges off without the heat generated setting off the heat sensor goodies,,,,,, you are still faced with the entire door locked into the main safe body with the 12 internal locking shafts.

So theoretically the hinges themselves could be removed completely, but the safe and door integrity remains unchanged :D :D :D .

Oh, and THANKS again to all for the compliments,,, much appreciated folks.

If you have some idiot try to break into your safe hopefully they waste their time on the hinges too, not realising what's inside the door and that that's got nothing to do with the hinges.

So a few of the safe makers say. Sounds right to me.
