Check your shoulder straps - Broke my scope

Post by BBJ » 02 Apr 2015, 12:00 pm

No one to blame but myself for this.

Had a nylon belted strap that the stitching was fraying on but told myself she'd be right.

Hiking up a hill today and the up and down worked it lose.... Strap gave way, rifle tumbled back landing on the scope and skidding down the hill.

Full inspection not but but scope alignment now appears broken. Could not get a return to zero with 1 box of ammo.

If its the Leupold send it back for repairs (they often do them for free from what I've been reading lately) just be honest and tell them what happened and see what happens.

Thats exactly why i don't buy mass produced junk, heavy duty, hand stiched leather only, with high quality fittings.

Had a heavy duty leather sling, it unscrewed itself at the stud on the first day out. Luckily I caught the rifle before it fell but it was a quite an expensive sling.

Ya need one of these - Homemade Kangaroo Skin Rifle Sling, made it about 30 odd yrs ago now, never been off the rifle in all that time, used a couple of strips of leather to tie it on with and they've never given any trouble ever :D

No I haven't sorry, its just a strip of Skippy about 2 or 3" wide and narrowed down at the ends to go through the sling swivels, then I put a couple of holes at each end and threaded some leather strips through it and tied them off with a couple of knots, never given any issues ever and bloody comfortable to carry a rifle with and is excellent for wrapping your arm around to help steady for a shot.

Caught mine on the tray once and tore it 90% through. Didn't brake luckily.

Well I guess if you have a bad day and heaps of misses, you could always blame Skippy for jumping up and down at the crucial moment.
