Cleaning dies like you do a rifle

Post by RealNick » 14 Apr 2015, 4:27 pm

I've had a thought (look out )

All the corrosive crap we worry so much about cleaning out of our rifle must all end up on reloading dies too.

I've never done anything more than wipe the dirty lube off mine.

Anyone do a cleaning routine for their dies more like a rifle?

Wipe with solvent, patch dry, oil for storage. Wipe down dry again before use. Repeat.

?

Or over thinking it for dies?

Thoughts chaps?

Nah don't do much to em at all to be honest, every now and again I pull em apart and give all the parts a good wipe down but that's about it.

no rust on my dies . after a loading session if and that's a big if i use the fl die it gets a good run under the hot tap and a good spray of WD40 and i sit it upright on some

rags for a day and then put it in it's box .

none of the others come in contact with any crap like sizing lube so they just go back in their box's i use redding comp and forster dies so i look after them .

Just wiping down the rods after use has done me.

Never done anything like what you'd call a routine.

And wipe and an oil to prevent corrosion over time is all they need IMO.

I just wipe mine with a cloth to remove tumbler debris and that's it.
