Vaseline has fairly poor lubrication qualities. Normal grease would be far better. Any lubrication oil would be ok, including singer with a viscosity of perhaps 10 up to 90 gear box oil. But 90 might freeze up in the alpine regions.

Vaseline is a little too clear for me, I like my grease the same colour as my condoms....Black so it looks bigger and we all know that bigger is better so black grease has to be the best :)

Graphite grease is known for its ability to lubricate in hot situations.

So I finally went to purchase the gun oil/lube today but saw two different products and wasn't sure if I should just stick with the lanox or is the other one better?

:drinks: hope every one had a good weekend

Could be just a badge swap. Inox was the first to come out I think. I have another brand.

You can buy Singer Oil in Coles still.

Bought some the other day to redo some fishing reels, in the small white bottle that we all remember. It's where they keep car cleaning stuff.

I probably only said it 4 or 5 pages ago, but what the heck, this thread does keep going around in circles....gotta keep the punters entertained;

Singer oil, forrrgettaboutit
Light Machine oil. is what you need. (damn near the same thing)
Bunnings, small container, few buck...
Anyway, if you go to your local hardware store and ask for sewing machine oil....... :huh: :unknown:

But sir..... you're a bit blokey for sewing....
nah... its for mi guns..
Of course sir....

For the more economically minded;
1)add kerosine to your engine oil until you get the right consistency, maybe your mobile 1 synthetic... no?? nice and thin, does get in..
But to be honest; A rifle is not a sewing machine, it doesnt have small fine gears and tiny moving parts....
2) for the aerosol sheep juice fans - anhydrous lanolin, double boiler melt, add hydrocarbon distillate or Isopropyl alcohol, spray pack, bob's your proverbial :thumbsup:

Yep, but I usually use diesel to thin out oil, cause diesel is just a very light oil!

Just one thing to be careful about... A lot of solvents/cleaners don't like recoil pads and have a habit of turning them into piles of goo after you put them back in the safe.

Just keep them away from any rubber.
