Here's another pic of the outside of the case. The wood is a quality ply of 7mm, the sides are all Tassie Oak. The handle was carved from a lump of spotted gum. The surfaces were stained to a darker colour than the original "pine" look and then given 3 coats of clear laquer, sanding between coats. The biggest problem is getting timber that has no warp in it. The corners were cut to 45 degrees and joined by glue and screw but I also used fine panel pins or light nails as well. I started off by laying the rifle on the uncut ply and sketching the outline, then measuring the overall size to come up with the length and depth of the case. That means you leave room for cleaning gear or anything else you want to carry, with a separate compartment for the bolt. It's designed to fit so that the bolt has to be removed. Cost of materials for what I have here would be around $80, more if you stuff up and have to go buy more wood.

If it's not wood and blued steel, it's not one of mine
