Polymer mags for Ruger Gunsite Scout

Post by squirrelhunter » 29 Oct 2013, 8:14 am

I've been soldiering along for a little while with my Ruger Scout now.

It's all good but the one thing I'm not loving is the stock steel magazine.

It's quite stiff to feed. Haven't got chance of doing it 1 handed, need both fingers on the cartridge/spring plate and it's still tough.

Anyone shoot with the polymer mags instead?

If there a bit smoother I might have to buy a few.

Cheers.

How long is "a little while now"?

Those Scout mags are notoriously stiff when new.

If you've only put 50 rounds through it, it wouldn't surprise me at all if it's still stiff.

Once you've fed another hundred through it though I think you'll find that filling it smooths out a lot.

Lots of complaints about how rough they are to start.

Even try filling and emptying the mag at home with 100 rounds, you don't need to be firing them to work the mag.

Can't speak for the polymer mags, but the above is on the money for softening up the stock metal ones.

I have a mate who's scout I've shot regularly, it was an absolute bastard to load at first, but after 100 rounds or something it was much better.

Hmm. It hasn't had that many rounds through it...

I have noticed it freeing up a little which is good.

I'll feed another hundred rounds through it and see how it shapes up.

They're real bastards to start.

Stiff enough that it scraped little channels into your brass when loading :(

Does smooth out though.
