My new reloading press so far. This is going to be a bit pic heavy but every picture tells a story.

Frame mounting holes drilled, ram and die hole bored and threaded.

The sand mould rammed up and ready to pour.

The wooden pattern which will be rammed up in a 2 part sand mould then carefully removed to leave a cavity in which the molten aluminium will be poured.

Good question. Don't know. Haven't thought about it but will.

I love sand molds. I watched a video of a guy on youtube making his own mini engine totally out of aluminum from old stuff and a wooden mold like that.

The furnace is gas fired with a burner made from bits of gal pipe and the furnace is piece of hot water cylinder lined with wedges kf fire brick stuck together with a sand and lime mortar. The casting sand is just brickies sand with a little bentonite clay to improve its stickiness and a little coal dust which improves the surface finish of the casting. Nothing special about the gear
