Gun socks for preventing corrision?

Post by Techc » 30 Oct 2013, 6:56 pm

G'day,

Like it says, do gun socks do anything for you for corrosion or just for protecting against dings?

I'm nearish to the water here in Adelaide and wondering if I should get a couple?

Cheers.

Just scratches.

You need some moisture absorbers or vapour capsule things if you want to prevent corrosion properly.

A safe full of those silicon beads which come in everything will help out.

Silicone treated gun socks will protect against rust, provided your rifle is dry when you put it in.
There are also gun socks treated with some chemical that release vapours to protect your rifles. Do a google search for VCI or Z-Corr.

All our guns are in VCI socks, and we've had no rust issues since. Had some problems previously, even though we had moisture absorber beads in the safe. At some point, the beads get waterlogged, and no longer work.

Zerust is another of the vapour ones.

The zerust ones are good.

$30 for a pair which will protect an average safe for 2 years or so.
