Gun Safe

Post by zobster » 06 Apr 2016, 1:05 pm

It is unrealistic to expected an advertised 4 gun safe to be able to store 4 guns

Any ideas guys?

the'll usually store 4 but will be pretty much touching if not very tight, and thats without scopes bipods etc better to go bigger and buy once then you have all the space you need :)

I know, I know, should have gotten the 15 gun model at the start of it all, but I can't afford it now.

Gun safes are like tents. Some of those 3 man tents make me wonder how friendly those men have to be, or how large those men are.

I guess the same applies for safes. A 4 gun safe might hold for handguns. ;-)

But you're right - the capacity indication of those safes is far from generous - they push it to the limit. Sorry to hear that you've been caught out.

I was a bit concerned the analogy was going to sound like; safes are like tents, theyre described as 3-man; but if you stack them right..... :? :wtf:

The standard for a gun safe is if it says hold 4 GUN not rifle = 4 single barreled SHOTGUN no scopes or bipods
Most are tight even at that one way to increase your storage is to store one up one down

4 gun safe = ammo locker. Even 4 single barrel shotties without any accessories would be too tight for my liking.

General rule when it comes to safes is halve the advertised number.

Yeah and now try removing the small one and fit a bigger one.

I've got a 5 gun safe and 5 fit in there no probs (with scopes and two of them are 50mm objectives)
I put a thick pad on the bottom of my safe and store them muzzle down with the trigger guard facing out...
They fit no probs...

That's exactly how I store mine, 2 x 50mm obj and 1 x 40mm obj, now the single shot won't fit...

Do you store with bolt in or out?

Bolt out of course mate....
I just think it ain't that difficult... I use to store them butt down but since I started storing them muzzle down, they fit so much easier...

If you've got something like a BLR, it's unrealistic to remove the bolt... Just get one of those trigger locks or whatever they are.....

A trigger lock is required whilst the gun is in the safe? Is that a legal requirement, or just an extra precaution of personal preference?

Not a requirement at all just when I take them to the range they are on so i dont have to hunt and find one and fitt to gun saves a bit of time, yes i know i dont have to fit to transport a rifle in NSW ( i do for pistol tho and put them in locked box ) just feel doing a bit more.
Its like the back to base monitored alarm just feel im doing a bit more .
