Hey everyone,
Tonight I decided to modify my ammo can so that it could be locked as well as remain waterproof/dustproof. This will be used to carry ammunition to the property / hunting trips.
What was needed;
Bolt + nut (I used a round head to maximize usable room)
Lock
O-Ring (This will act a seal)
Drill along will drill bit set
Spanner
Grinder
Vice
Marker
It's pretty straight forward.
Drill a hole, that's only a fraction bigger than the bolt size, into the ammo box that aligns with the existing external hole.
Insert bolt and test to see if the lid will shut, If it doesn't shut either make the external hole bigger or shorten the bolt.
Not required but I ground a flat spot on one side of the bolt to make it easier to drill into.
Measure out where the lock would need to be and mark accordingly.
Drill, starting with a small bit, gradually stepping it up until the lock fits through.
Insert bolt + nut into can with o-ring attached and test fit again. Tighten.
Keyring.
I used a .243 casing that I had from the last trip.
Drilled two holes opposing each other and inserted key ring.
I'm sure other people have done this or done this a better way. This is the way that popped into my mind, so I simply thought to share. Cheers.
